Jolla

Letzte Woche habe ich in meiner (viel zu knappen) Freizeit meine erste Applikation für SailfishOS erstellt. Seit dem habe ich in so kurzer Zeit sehr viel gelernt und bin begeistert, sowohl von der ownCloud-, als auch von der Sailfish-Community.

Die erste Version konnte eigentlich noch gar nichts, dank vieler vorhandener Beispiele konnte ich aber jeden Tag mit nur wenig Zeit - es war selten mehr als eine Stunde - ein wenig mehr Funktionalität implementieren. Am Freitag habe ich dann die Übersetzung über Transifex auf den Weg gebracht und bis heute schon vier neue Sprachdateien erhalten! Gleichzeitig habe ich eine Anfrage an das Team des ownCloud Bookmark-Moduls gestellt - es gibt aktuell nur das Lesen von Lesezeichen als Endpunkt an der öffentlichen REST-API, ich habe nach einer Methode zum Anlegen eines Lesezeichens gefragt - heute kam genau dazu ein Pull-Request in das Repository. Sehr cool!

Am Wochenende habe ich tatsächlich einmal ein privates Softwareprojekt so weit gebracht, dass man es tatsächlich nutzen kann. Schon für meine webOS-Geräte wollte ich immer mal eine kleine Applikation schreiben. Wegen fehlender Zeit und zu wenig Ehrgeiz, mich in die APIs einzulesen, ist daraus aber nie etwas geworden.

Mit meinem Jolla und dem Betriebssystem SailfishOS ist es aber nun doch etwas geworden: Die Applikation holt Euch die Lesezeichen von Eurem ownCloud-Server und stellt sie in einer Liste dar. Die einzelnen Lesezeichen lassen sich dann im Sailfish-Browser öffnen. Zugegeben, dass ist nicht viel, hat aber Spaß gemacht. Jetzt kann ich endlich sagen, dass ich mal eine App in Qt geschrieben habe - und dass ohne eine einzige Zeile in C++ zu schreiben!

Some time ago, Ubuntu sponsor Canonical announced that they were bringing their operating system to mobile phones and tablets. Following this announcement, people were waiting for device coming with Ubuntu, and after a long waiting, Spanish manufacturer bq is the first to bring a device coming preinstalled with Ubuntu for phones. As they are only bringing small batches to the market, you can get one of those phones in so-called flash sales, announced on social media, lasting while there are devices in stock.

Tomorrow I will get a new car. Not for the fun of it - since being father to four kids, we need a car that is able of moving all six of us. this shiny new car has an USB port which enables me to put in an USB memory stick and play the music placed on it as if it were an audio cd. This sounds great, doesn’t it? No more joggling with joggling with CDs, no more problems with cleaning and carrying discs around and moving the right tunes from one car to the other.

Yesterday, my Jolla returned from a short stint with Jolla care. I unmounted my Palm Pre2 (which I used for the time my Jolla was not available) and began to set up my phone again - apps, Android support, accounts.

One of the apps I needed regurlarly, although I would prefer using something different for messaging, was Whatsapp. My friends are sending me pictures and do some chatting, my basketball team is organizing itself usinga Whatsapp group. I am using Mitakuulu - and indie Whatsapp client available for SailfishOS. There is no official client, of course -same on webOS and FirefoxOS - so my devices of choice are depending on third-party developers to do some magic. Mitakuulu is very well integrated with SailfishOS, so I never opted in using the Android client.
